Achieve Great Color Match Through Complementary Colors

Complementary color match are any two colors which are directly opposite each other, such as red and green. These opposing colors create maximum contrast and maximum stability.

complementary color match

When combining complementary colors in dressing up, we should avoid using two dark colors, vivid colors or dull colors. However, we can mix two light complementary colors.

Looking at our grosgrain ribbon chart, here are some examples how we can pair them up.

Light Pink Celadon

Lavender Wheat

But to get an even better harmony in complemntary hues color coordination is by coordinating light and dull or dark colors.

Millennium Blue Brown

Misty Mauve Cream

Interestingly, it seems that coordination between dark blue, purple, and mauve, in particular, complement pretty well against vivid colors.

Blueberry Yellow Gold

Purple Yellow

Misty Mauve Lime

Similarly, dark colors of red, orange, and green hues can create a nice combination against the vivid colors.

Cranberry Lime

Orange Blue

Forest Green Yellow Gold

Three color coordination involves two complementary colors and one in between color the two.

To coordinate three colors of contrasting hues have a tendency to be skewed toward a certain hue. So it is best to balance one of the complementary hues with a light or dark shade.

Cream Wisteria Hot Pink

Lime Purple Oatmeal

Turquiose Maroon Yellow Gold

Orange Blueberry Apple Green
