Introducing Funky Fashion Sportswear Accessories

Let's get the curls

Don't laugh if I tell you this but it's true that we bake the ribbons as we bake our cakes in the oven. I'm serious!

Here's the recipe to make a 75mm (3 inches) diameter curly korker bow.

• 6mm (1/4 inches) diameter wooden dowels, a bag of 6 is just perfect;
• 12 wooden clothed pegs;
• 10mm (3/8 inches) width grosgrain ribbon, each dowel needs about 600mm (24 inches) length ribbon;
• scissors, needle and threads:
• hair band.

Preheat oven to 150C (300F). Wrap the ribbon around the dowel and secure it with a peg on both ends. Arrange them nicely in a baking tray and have all the rods standing on the pegs, as you see in this picture. Bake ribbon dowels for 30 minutes.

When the dowels are cool enough to touch, remove the ribbons and cut them into 3 inches length. You'll need a minimum of 20 pieces to make a nice curly bows. I have 24 here.

"No way! That's too much hassle."

Well, there's always a short cut! You can always buy pre-curled and pre-cut grosgrain ribbon. The choice is yours. They come in great matching colors with great prices, of course.

Arrange them in a line, make sure all of them are almost the same length. Trim them if they are not.

Then, seal all your ribbon ends now. The best way to do this is heat seal by flame.

Now, we are ready to stitch them up. Find the center of each ribbon and join all of them up in singe file with needle and thread.

Squish the ribbons a little to make them close together, bring your thread and make a 360 degree loop around them.

Squish the ribbons down all the way, while ensuring the thread stay in the middle.

At the last ribbon when your thread coming off, make a stitch and pull the thread tight. Bring your thread around the bow for another one or two more loops, then finished off.  DON'T cut off the thread as you'll still need it.

Attach it on hair band. Looking at this picture, you should have the idea how I stitch it on. Alternatively, you can stitch it on any preferred hair accessories.

Now, this curly ribbon is ready to go with the matching fashion sportswear.

You can mix and match many combination of colors. Curling patterned ribbon gives you many different alternatives too.
