How to make Hair Barrette with Ribbon Bow
Things you need to make hair barrette with ribbon bow:
- Ribbon bow;
- 10mm (3/8 inches) width ribbon, 150mm (6 inches) length for center knot;
- Hair barrette or French clip; and
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks.
French Clip
I normally use a 60mm (2.5 inches) long French clip for 75 - 100mm (3 - 4 inches) width ribbon bow. As for 125mm (5 inches) width ribbon bow, I would prefer to go for an 80mm (3 inches) long clip.

Before we attach the French clip on the ribbon bow, we have to remove the inner spring off the center of the clip. Just gently push the spring to release it from the ledge; it will then come off naturally. |

Now, turn to the back of the bow. Dab a little glue at the bow center, find the center of clip and secure it there. |

The Center Knot
Make a reef knot at the center front of the ribbon bow, tying together the bow and the clip.
I feel more secured to have them tied together than just gluing them.

Find the center of the ribbon and place it on the French clip. Bring both tails around to the front and make your first overhand knot. |

The first overhand knot: You need to pull it as tight as possible and pull it horizontally, plus turning the wrong side of ribbon facing you. |

The second overhand knot: Before you tighten the knot, please ensure the knot is neatly looped; all the right faces are in front, plus the tails are in the vertical directions. Do you have all three facts taken care? |

Now, pull the ribbon tails in the vertical direction. How tight should I go? Not too tight, of course! This picture should give you some ideas. Go till the extend that the knot would not loosen and looks good. |

Seal the Tails and touch up
Trim the tails, dab very little glue on them and hold them down with your thumb and index fingers.

At both ends of hair barrettes, squeeze in enough glue on the barrette and press the ribbon against it. It looks neat to have the glue form a little circle on the barrettes. You can try to do that too.
