Peony Pom Poms Bows
The ribbon bow you see here is a 100mm (4 inches) size bow, using 39mm (1 -1/2 inches) width satin ribbon of 1m (3-1/2 yards) length.
To begin with, these are things you need to make this peony peony pom poms style ribbon bows:
- Ribbon, how much? Determine the loop size required and multiply by 12.
- Tying wire 26 gauges, 100mm (4 inches) length, make a bent at center with your thumb, or Needle and thread,
- An alligator hair clip (in case you need to hold your ribbon), and
- Scissors,
- Lighter or candle to seal ribbons.
As you can see, I use a bow maker here. The two rods are 5 inches apart. No worries if you do not have one. There are always alternatives...

Estimate the tail length you want to achieve, and be sure it is not wrapped or coiled up. In this picture, the tail is about 5 inches beginning from the left rod. Make your first wrap around the rod, secure the ribbon temporary with an alligator clip. |

Now, wrap the ribbon around for 10 times. Hold it with an alligator clip when done. |

Remove from bow maker, flatten the loops and cut off triangles at each end as shown. |

Hold the ribbon steadily in your hand and run the cut corners in flame to stop the fray. |

You should have your ribbon in this shape before going on. |

Bring the ends together in the middle, matching the cur triangles. |

Place the bended tying wire over the bow center. Grasp the two ends of the wire with your right hand, grasp them as close as possible to the bow. Make a twist and hold on to it. Then, turn the bow with your left hand to twist the wire. This is easier than twisting the wire alone. Just five turns, five is good. Snap off the long wire to leave behind about 5mm (1/4 inches) length tail, and just bend it down with your hand. |

Hold the two ribbon tails, pull out loops, twisting them as you turn. When you're happy with the shape, trim and seal your ribbon ends. |
