Braided Ribbon Headband
This is a four colors headband. It would help me to explain easily which at the same time, I hope you can understand better. Things you need to make this headband:
- Headband, preferably those plastic headbands without teeth. I use a 14mm (1/2 in) width here but you explore can explore any sizes of your preference based on similar concept.
- 15mm (3/8 in) width ribbons in 4 different matching colors. Each of length is about 2 times the length of the headband, this is a safe figure to use.
- Hot glue gun, scissors and lighter.
Hot glue your ribbon as it picture below. HB means headband.
This is important step and be sure you have it correct!
On the top surface of headband, dark blue ribbon is overlapping the light blue. When you turn the headband looking at the underside, beige ribbon should be overlapping the white.

You should be getting something like this. Now, how do we make a professional look ribbon ends? What I did here is I hot glue the ribbons together, trim to the shape of headband end, then use the lighter flame gently heat seal the end. Alternatively, instead of heat seal, you may neatly stitched them up. |

RIBBON HEADBAND REPEATING STEPS: Hold headband with top side facing you. 1 (Beige) - Rear Left to Front Right. 2. (White) - Rear Right to Front Left. |
Here, loop the ribbon behind the headband. 3. (Light Blue) - Front Right to Rear Left. 4. (Dark Blue) - Front Left to Rear Right. |
Back to the front again. 5. (Light Blue) - Rear Left to Front Right. 6. (Dark Blue) - Rear Right to Front Left. You may notice the ribbons are loose and untidy, but is okay. Just carry on, you can correct that later. |

Loop the ribbon behind the headband again. 7. (Beige) - Front Right to Rear Left. 8. (White) - Front Left to Rear Right. Now, look back, your ribbons are in the same position as you have started. |
Well, you are done with the first cycle. If you wish, you may tighten and tidy up your ribbon a little. Simply push the braided ribbon towards the top (point where it is glued), then pulled the ribbon tails, one at a time, until you see the braided pattern is good, as in pictures below:

Continue with the similar repeating steps (1 - 8) until you get to the end of the headband. |
To finish off, do as what you have done at the beginning. Glue or stitch, either way works but both ends must look the same. Here, I glued, trimmed and flame sealed the ends. |
