How do we Heat Seal Ribbon Ends with Tread Burner?
Things you need to seal ribbon ends:
- A tread burner with one "AA" size battery;
- A metal ruler; and
- Your ribbon.
This is done on sheer ribbon, by far the most difficult ribbon to handle comparing to grosgrain and satin.

Press the button on the thread burner until the tip is lit (this happened in seconds), carefully and quickly swipe through the ribbon along the edge of ruler. Imagine you are holding a pen drawing a line with a ruler. Just like that! |

Gently remove the cut edge from the ribbon. Do not pull off the edge if it doesn't come off. All you need to do is just repeat step 1 and step 2 again... and again. |

Why seal ribbon ends with thread burner?
As described in its name, it is a tool to burn thread. The beauty is, when the thread is burnt, it would fray no more!
So, we have discovered this little privilege and use it on ribbon too.
What is the difference between thread burner and wood burning tool?
Physically, both do have some differences but ultimately they give you similar results. You use them in the same way too!
Thread burner has pointed tip, battery operated whereas wood burning tool comes with a broad flat tip and requires power supply.
So, in terms easy handling and convenience, I prefer using thread burner over wood burning tool.
Oops! Something burning and it's stink to faint!
Here is a little WARNING! This is a good tool to seal ends of sheer and satin ribbons. As grosgrain and velvet ribbons are thicker, the process of burning them will result very strong odor. Unless you use it in a well ventilated place, I would strongly discourage using this technique for the sake of good healthy practice.
