Which Super Glue to use for Ribbon Crafts?
Most of us have a few favorite super glue we reach for every time a sticky situation arises. Sometimes, however, we look at the ribbons and pieces we plan to stick together and scratch our heads about which glue to use, what is safe for the kids.
Instead of scratching our heads, let's take a look at some of the types of glues (besides hot glue) and their uses for ribbon crafts.
Glue Fabric Ribbon
Fabric glues are available for making a perfect appliqué, baste fabric together for sewing a perfect seam, or permanently bond a hem.
Permanent Clear Gel
This glue works quickly and dries clear. It can be thinned with a small amount of acetone. Ribbon wear with this glue application cannot be dry cleaned, but it may be washed.
Permanent White Glue
This can be used to glue trims on ribbon, or bond fabric ribbons permanently such as making hems. It dries clear, many dry flexible for stretchable fabric ribbon.
Temporary Glue
This glue will hold until the fabric ribbon is washed. If you ever need temporary adhesive for stenciling, embroidery and applique, look into these glues.
They eliminate the need for pinning or basting while giving a strong hold.
You can find them in sticks, squeeze bottles and spray adhesives. I have not included the spray adhesive here as I find that it not as convenient for use in ribbon crafts.
Liquid Fusible GlueIt fuses trims to fabric, allow you to add fancy styles to your fabric ribbons. Apply and allow to dry for 15 minutes, then iron over for a permanent bond. It's washable and dry-cleanable. |
Glue Jewelry
This is a very dependable glue for embellish rhinestones, crystals, sequins, gems, pearls or beads on fabric ribbon.
These fabric glues below dry permanent, allow repeating washes.
